The Birth of a new Trappist Brewery!

The INTERNATIONAL TRAPPIST ASSOCIATION (ITA) announced the birth of a new Trappist brewery- this time in Rome, Italy!

In 2014, Tre Fontane Abbey became a member of the International Trappist Association (ITA).

The brothers of Tre Fontane have gradually been developing plans for setting up a microbrewery within the walls of their monastery, turning to the ITA for advice and know-how.

In early 2015, Tre Fontane Abbey submitted an application for the right to use the logo “Authentic Trappist Product” on beer made from a recipe which they developed. Representatives of the ITA made the required site visit, and the conclusion of the Quality Audit was favorable.

The official tasting of the product was held on May 4 by the members of the General Meeting. A vote was then taken by the members of the Board of Directors, and the right to use the “Authentic Trappist Product” label on the new Trappist beer was granted. For the brothers of Tre Fontane, this is the proverbial ‘icing on the cake’ following the successful completion of a long process.

TRE FONTANE, birra trappista Italiana!

The first beer from the Tre Fontane Trappist brewery is a Trappist Tripel. The high carbonation gives the mouthfeel a pleasant dry finish. The mildly sweet aftertaste comes from the soothing flavor of eucalyptus herb which cleanses and refreshes the palate.

While the beer gives the impression of being light, it has abundant body. The high alcohol content adds a warm, refined feeling to the soothing highlights of the eucalyptus.

ABV: 8.5 %.
Bottles of 75 cl and 33 cl.

This beer is sold only in Tre Fontane’s monastery store and a few restaurants in Rome.

We’re looking to get our hands on this beer somehow without having to travel to Rome. We’ll see…
