This BrewView of GULDEN DRAAK 9000 QUADRUPEL is the fourth of 4 BrewViews from BROUWERIJ VAN STEENBERGE. This beer was the second wonderful surprise of the Van SteenBerge Sampler Pack we purchased back on November 1, 2013. Below is our BrewView…
APPEARANCE / THE POUR:
ABV: 10.5%. Poured into a Trappist goblet @ 59°F. Pours a medium copper color with a dense 3-finger head with large bubbles. Meniscus is medium rising. Great Brussels lace as the head collapses. The head does collapse a bit quicker than its cousin, Gulden Draak. Brouwerij Van Steenberge does it again- first with a dark triple in Gulden Draak, and now a lighter colored Quadrupel with the 9000!
AROMA / BOUQUET:
Slight metallic nose, with Intense fruits, pear bouquet. But also some light caramel and Belgian yeastiness in the background.
Peppery, cloves in the beginning, but as the beer warms a bit, there is toffee, and sugarplums with breadiness.
MOUTHFEEL / PALATE:
Acidic, a tiny bit dryer than its cousin. Prickly sensation at the front of the tongue. Lingering malt and dryness in the finish.
FOOD PAIRING SUGGESTIONS:
Blue veined and sharp chesses, beef, boar, wild game.
This is another winner from Brouwerij Van Steenberge. It packs a nice punch. With it being dryer than Gulden Draak, some could consider this a strong session beer. Many breweries are making “hybrids” of classic Belgian style beers with the results not always being successful. Such is NOT the case with Gulden Draak 9000. It is World class- an awesome beer. Definitely seek this one out!
