We heard a lot about this beer… it has received high ratings from different reviewers across the board. And since Duvel-Moortgat just recently purchased this brewery and its beer offerings, we thought we would give this beer a try.
APPEARANCE / THE POUR:
8% ABV Poured into a tulip shaped glass. Pours a light blonde color, very dense 3-4 finger head. Pour slowly! Excellent, dense Brussels lace on the sides of the glass as the head collapses.
AROMA / BOUQUET:
Citrus (Grapefruit), spicy phenols, peppery, light maltiness.
Medium sharpness in its graininess… black pepper, tropical fruitiness.
MOUTHFEEL / PALATE:
Medium prickly acidity, medium grapefruit tartness. Dry finish.
FOOD PAIRING SUGGESTIONS:
Peasant sourdough bread dipped in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with aged Balsamic Vinegar. Mussels and Pomme Frites. Great beer to use with cooking.
A very well made American Saison, not quite as tart and grassy as the Belgian versions. Slightly less funk than the Belgian versions. Good overall quality.
